Dr. Rachel S. Hawley
Welcome to my C.V. I am an accomplished English professor with experience teaching several courses and working with students in several environments. I teach college level first year and upper division composition and literature and am a scholar of 20th & 21st century American Literature, with an emphasis in drama, theory (emphasis on post-colonial and feminist theory) and cultural studies. I am also the Lead Consultant and RIDES Coordinator for the MSU Denver Writing Center, where I work alongside the leadership team to supervise writing consultants, provide faculty support and assist writers at all levels. I am an enthusiastic advocate for women and gender issues, as proven by my certification in Women’s Studies and my focus on intersectionality in my course designs.
Curriculum Vitae
Every summer I get the opportunity to volunteer for Denver Pop Culture Con on the Main Events team. It's the highlight of my year!
I am from the St. Louis area and love my little city of hidden treasures. As a native it is also mandatory that I love the Cardinals!
I studied French in high school and minored in it in college. While at SIUE, I took part in a study abroad to Angers, France. After graduating with my PhD, I went to Morocco for a class on Women in the Muslim World. (See slideshows below)
I moved to Colorado for the environment and health benefits, but fell in love with the weather and the breathtaking view of the mountains.
My friends call me the cursing chef, because as much as I love to cook, I burn and cut myself A LOT! One of my favorite activities is to cook for friends and family. Click to see one of my favorite recipes.
In the '90s I was always taking part in Tae Bo and kickboxing aerobics, but now I'm studying Muay Thai and training to fight at the amateur level.
Personal Highligths
SLIDESHOWS
I got the opportunity to live in Angers, France during the fall semester of my senior year. I learned a lot about the culture and language of France and got to travel all over the country and to England. But most importantly, I made great friends from all over the world, was able to host friends and family, and widened my view of the world.
As a graduation present to myself, after finishing my PhD, I attended a 2 week study abroad course, "Women in the Muslim World." We went all over Morocco and met with women and girls at universities, in the court system, at hospitals and orphanages, and at various NGOs and co-ops. This was a once-in-a-lifetime lifechanging experience.
